A blend of Virtual and Physical Worlds

"How can we engage a young crowd and introduce the job of pipefitter to them?"

For mtech⁺, we developed a Mixed Reality experience that gives potential learners and jobseekers a first-hand taste of what it’s like to work as a pipefitter. Safely, simply, and inspiringly.

Designed as part of the mtechnology⁺ center, this lightweight, standalone solution introduces users to the profession in a motivating and approachable way, blending immersive technology with educational purpose.

Learning by Doing, Without Isolation

Unlike traditional Virtual Reality, this experience uses Mixed Reality to keep users aware of their surroundings. They see the real world while interacting with virtual tools and components layered on top.
This prevents the social isolation or disorientation sometimes associated with fully immersive setups, making it suitable for users of all ages and experience levels.

Simple, Portable, and Inspiring

Built for maximum accessibility, the application is completely standalone, requiring no external computer or setup. It features:

  • An integrated tutorial that guides the user step by step
  • Intuitive controls for easy interaction
  • A short, engaging scenario that can be completed in just a few minutes
  • A portable form factor, perfect for use at trade fairs, workshops, and career events

The entire experience was designed to be plug-and-play, ready to travel anywhere the mtechnology⁺ center goes.

Empowering the Next Generation of Technicians

By combining Mixed Reality with clear storytelling and intuitive design, the experience lets participants “step into the shoes” of a pipefitter. They perform virtual tasks, assemble pipes, and experience the precision and teamwork that define the profession, all within a guided, encouraging environment.

For mtech⁺, this project is more than a demo; it’s a gateway to curiosity. It helps attract new talent to the technical sector and highlights the innovative, forward-thinking nature of the organization.

Simple Technology, Strong Impact

For us, this project captures what immersive learning should be: accessible, mobile, and human-centered. It shows how technology can lower barriers, spark interest, and create meaningful first encounters with the world of work, one experience at a time.
